Acorns get back to winning ways with Bashley victory

Hartpury FC returned to winning ways on Saturday defeating Bashley 2-0 at the Veho Community Stadium in the Southern League Div One South.

Second half strikes from Louis Manning and Billy Osborn saw the Acorns return to Gloucestershire with all three points.

It was a quiet first 45 minutes with one of the only opportunities falling to Bashley on 13 minutes when Scott Bungley saw a close ranged effort saved by Ryan Smallwood.

Bashley had just the second effort of the first half, but Smallwood was on hand again to produce a magnificent point-blank range save to deny Toure Wilson on 40 minutes, seeing the game enter the break goalless.

HALF TIME – BASHLEY 0-0 HARTPURY FC

The Acorns started the second period with some intent and carved out their first opportunity of the game on 51 minutes when Nathan Jenkins saw a driven effort deflected past the post.

And that intent was rewarded on 59 minutes when Manning lashed home at the back post following a dangerous cross from Vanylson Silva.

Six minutes later, Osborn made it two when he outrageously found the top right corner from the corner of the 18-yard box.

Bashley’s afternoon continued to get worse when they were reduced to ten men on 71 minutes.

Manning went close to a second for himself on 78 minutes when he was played through by Jenkins before drilling a low effort just past the far post.

This victory saw the Acorns return to winning ways and will look to extend this form on Wednesday, when we travel to Larkhall Athletic.
