Career Overview

I joined Hartpury University in 2023, having been at the Royal Agricultural University for 14 years, where I held a number of posts, Dean of School of Equine Management and Science, Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange and Graduate Dean. I first held lecturing posts at the Welsh Agricultural College and  Aberystwyth University, where I also started my research career. A PhD in Equine Digestive Physiology from the University of Edinburgh cemented my interest in equine nutrition and digestive physiology. My research has been wide-ranging, expanding into forage quality, digestive health and the gut microbiome and feeding systems for promoting respiratory and digestive health in stabled horses.

I am a registered Animal Scientist with the Royal Society of Biology and chair of the European Workshop for Equine Nutrition Association, and Fellow of the Higher Education Association.
